CAMERA LAB / CONCEPT LESSON

Frame rate: capture and playback are separate

Capture rate tells you how many frames are recorded each second. Playback rate tells you how quickly they are shown.

Canon EOS R50 VRF-S 14–30mm Verified endpoints

How the pieces connect

50 FPS capture played at 25 FPS runs at half speed. Played at 50 FPS, it runs in real time with more temporal samples.

Apply it to your camera

Use Full HD 50 FPS for the verified higher-rate example. Set shutter duration separately; 1/100 s is an optional 180° starting point.

What these settings change

01

Aperture • physical light

A lower f-number lets in more light at the same shutter duration. At 14mm, this lens can open to f/4.

02

Shutter • time collecting light

Each frame collects light for 1/50 second. A longer exposure collects more light and more movement.

03

ISO • output brightness

ISO 400 changes output brightness, not incoming light. With little captured light, noise can become easier to see.
